Video Geek Extraordinaire
Danger Mahoney
Hi there, I’m Danger Mahoney. If you’re part of the Slice team, thanks for stopping by! I’ve put together this page to support my application for the Video Director role. Above, you’ll find my video cover letter that I’ve made just for you, and below are a few select projects that showcase the kind of storytelling, and production leadership I can bring to this role. I hope you enjoy!
Video Cover Letter
Vimeo Customer spotlight
This series highlights real Vimeo users and the creative ways they use the platform to power their work. I produced and directed each video from start to finish—managing budgets, booking talent, coordinating schedules, and shaping the story in post. These videos blend authenticity and heart. Very much in the spirit of what I believe Slice is aiming for.
Vimeo on demand explainer
I led the production of this explainer video for a new Vimeo product launch. From outlining and writing the script to collaborating on animation and creative direction, I helped turn a complex feature set into a clear, engaging piece. A video like this could be a great tool for onboarding new Slice customers and showcasing product value in a friendly, accessible way.

If you hired me, it wouldn’t be my first job with free pizza as a perk. Back in college—and for a while after—I worked at a family friend’s pizza shop in Florida. Those were some of the best days of my life. It was before I moved to New York, but the memories (and the marinara) still stick with me. I saw firsthand just how hard local pizzerias have to work to compete with the big chains, and that’s why I really appreciate what Slice is doing to support and elevate these independent pizzerias.
Here’s something funny.
I wrote, directed, shot, and edited this comedy short for the Upright Citizens Brigade. It became a viral sensation, landing on The Huffington Post’s list of the Top 10 Funniest Internet Videos of the Year. It’s weird, it’s fast, and it still makes people laugh—which is all I could ask for.
MY favorite commercial I’ve worked on.
I was the visual effects supervisor for this hilarious Geico spot during my time at The Mill. I was selected to lead the project thanks to my background in comedy, and it turned out to be one of the most fun commercial shoots I’ve ever worked on.
Freelance Pizza work.
In 2018, I was brought on as a second unit director for a series of Pizza Hut commercials, focused specifically on capturing mouthwatering insert shots of the pizza. It was fascinating working alongside food stylists whose sole job was to make the product look incredible on camera. One memorable trick I picked up: to create that hot, steamy look, they’d microwave water-and-milk-soaked tampons and hide them under the pizza, poking small holes to let the steam escape just right. It was a masterclass in camera magic.
No Budget. No Problem.
While at UCB, some friends had recorded a hilarious story from comedian Dave Hill—but the video was corrupted, and all they had left was the audio. I was brought in to try and salvage the file, but after some digging, it was clear it couldn’t be saved. So instead, I offered to animate the story—on a $0 budget. The animated version was a hit and ended up sparking a whole run of animated shorts featuring other comedians. Sometimes the workaround becomes the breakthrough.
All by Myself.
I love collaborating with a team. There’s nothing like watching a great idea grow from a group of talented minds. But when a team isn’t available, I’m more than capable of handling a fast-turnaround project solo. With a little help from AI photo-generation tools, I shot and edited this funny (and proudly ridiculous) video entirely on my own.
Something that feels like this.
This is another piece from the Vimeo Spotlight series. This one in particular captures the kind of inspirational tone I think we could bring to telling the stories of local pizza shops. I want to highlight real people, real passion, and the impact their establishment has on their communities.
I see this as a mood board for the kind of heartfelt, visually-driven storytelling we could craft together at Slice.
